It runs about 10 minutes, dies. The really weird part is that if you let it sit about 5 minutes it starts right back up again and runs great again. That is until it dies again.

Are there any common problems with a Polaris 700?
As far as common problems, i have a 700 carb twin and a typical issue is the carb intake tends to crack on them due to the carb mounted to the frame and vibrations. My speedo wasnt working when i bought it but was a $60 issue to replace a burnt out hall effect sensor. Other than your price id say all day get it!
