Where can I rebuild my BMW front forks?
I found a fork rebuild kit at Hucky’s in Section 31 Fork, Shocks, Parts, and picked that up along with some new fork springs. At 97,500 miles and 40 years, the springs have likely given their all. What do I need to replace front fork seal?
Take the front wheel and fender off the bike. Loosen the upper pinch bolts that are holding the very top of the fork legs by the caps. Use a 24mm wrench and loosen the fork caps. Just break them loose, don’t take the caps off at this point.
How do you replace bushing on front fork?
Slide the middle bushing onto the upper fork tube and install the lower bushing in the groove at the bottom. Lube everything up with fork oil. Carefully slide the upper tube into the lower fork leg and let the middle bushing slide down until it hits the top of its groove.
How can I get my front fork off my bike?
It’s very tight, but you can get them loose without tearing the front fairing off the bike. Now that the forks are off the bike, back off the preload adjuster, rebound damping knob (at the top), and the compression damping adjustment screw (on the fork leg) until they are all the way out. Unscrew the top cap from the fork tube.
