How long can you drive in gear 3?
Realistically, regardless of the number of gears as long as you keep the engine in the right rpm range for that gear. My truck has a 4 speed and 55 MPH is about the max for 3rd and it would be happier at 25 or maybe 30MPH. I would get tired of riding around at 25 mph long before it hurt the truck.
