How does RECCO Rescue System work?
The RECCO detector emits a directional radar signal, like the beam of a flashlight. When the radar signal hits the RECCO reflector, it is echoed back to the detector and points the rescuer in the direction of the victim.

Is RECCO an avalanche beacon?
The RECCO detector has a range of up to 120 meters through the air, 20 meters through dry snow, 10 meters in wet snow, and 8 inches in water. I am not very familiar with RECCO’s Avalanche system, but from what I gather from reading the company’s Web site, it is not an RFID system. The system has a longer read range—200 meters (656 feet)—than passive RFID systems, because the reflector is optimized to reflect back as much energy as possible.
