How long does it take for valve cover sealant to dry?
Anaerobic flange sealants and gasket makers need about an hour to cure. Solvent-based flange sealants need to air-dry before they can be reassembled, and then they need another 10 minutes to dry before re-checking torque.
What should I use to seal my beads?
The next step is to seal the beads with some kind of protective varnish. I tried 3 different sealants. The first thing I tried was painting each bead with 2 coats of ModPodge, mostly because it was just sitting there on my worktable. One of the trickiest parts was figuring out how to dry the beads.
Do you need to put sealant on valve cover?
This isn’t always needed for any gasket with this same configuration, but it’s just easy insurance against leaks if you aren’t going to be taking the valve cover gasket off any time soon. With the oil lubrication, the valve cover also acts as an access point to deploy valve adjustments. A series of bolts and a rubber gasket/ silicone sealant mounts the valve cover and the cylinder bead together. Why Does The Leak Occur? The leak is a sign of wear and tear.
Is it time to replace the valve cover?
The valve cover gaskets are leaking enough that it’s time to replace them. The gaskets are molded rubber that sit in a channel in the head and the valve cover. There are lots of twists and turns in this cover though.
