How do you start a carbureted motorcycle that has been sitting?
To start a motorcycle that has been sitting, you’ll first need to charge/change the battery. Next you’ll need to change the oil, replace the gas, and examine the carburetor and jets to make sure they’re not clogged. After these have been checked, you can attempt to start the motorcycle.
What to do if your carb won’t start?
Generally cleaned carb pretty well – it was fairly clean anyway. DID not mess with the slide or needle. Measured float and made tiny adjustment to get into spec. Reassembled and it won’t start for nothing! Used to start first kick. Plug is dry and kind of brown – replaced anyway just in case – won’t start.

The throatier sound is just the slide opening allow the noise from the engine to be heard through the airbox, if your kicking the heck outta it and you pull the plug and its dry then your not getting fuel. These bike only need air/fuel/spark to run so just go through the order

What happens if you let your motorcycle sit for too long?
When gasoline becomes like this, it is completely unusable and you will not be able to start your motorcycle. If you plan on letting your motorcycle sit for an extended period of time be sure to either drain all the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer.
