Where is the expansion valve on an AC unit?
The AC expansion valve is found within the air conditioning system of a vehicle. The purpose of the valve is to manage how much refrigerant liquid can flow throughout this system. Whenever there is an abundance of refrigerant, the core of the evaporator will get too cold and eventually freeze.
When does an expansion valve stop working properly?
When you have an expansion valve that stops working properly, the symptoms will show up quickly. These symptoms will mostly pertain to the functionality of the air conditioning system. If it is a hot summer day and you turn on your air conditioning system, you will notice something is wrong if you’re not getting the cold air that you’re expecting.
Where is the expansion valve on a Honda CRV?
I’m finally getting around to blogging the evaporator/expansion valve installation on our daughters ’02 Honda CRV which I performed a while back. This part is difficult to show and tell because it’s located under the passenger side dash, but I’ve included some pages out of the 02 Honda CRV service manual that may help.

Pour some air conditioner oil onto the O rings of the new expansion valve, and set it onto the evaporator. Line up the tubes to the correct holes, and tighten the bolts to secure it in place. Replace the evaporator, blower motor, and the glove compartment.
Where do you put an expansion valve in an evaporator?
Install the new expansion valve, the tapered end with an o ring should go in toward the evaporator coils. Check to see if the o ring in the refrigerant line coupling is still in good condition, then reattach the fittings that connect this pipe.
What are the different types of expansion valves?
Learn more… There are two common types of expansion valves: those with sensing bulbs, usually found in household air conditioning systems, and H-Block style valves commonly found in cars. An expansion valve, also called a TVX valve, regulates the flow of refrigerant inside of a cooling system.

What does it mean when an expansion valve fails?
The warmth should activate the refrigerant to start flowing into the evaporator. You will be able to recognize this change audibly. If this does not occur, it can be an indication that the powerhead of the expansion valve has failed. Replace it with one of an appropriate capacity.
What to do if your AC expansion valve is not working?
If your air conditioning unit is not working properly, there is a simple test that you can conduct yourself to determine if the expansion valve has failed. Make sure the AC unit is plugged in or, if it is in an automobile, turn the vehicle on. You will be testing the function of the expansion valve, so it will need a source of power.
