How do you remove the CV axle nut?
Remove the CV axle nut cotter pin. Using a 32-mm socket attached to a powered impact driver, torque the CV axle nut off of the CV axle. If no powered impact tool is available, brace the wheel hub from moving by taking a long and strong metal bar (such as a crowbar) and bracing the bar on the ground and on two wheel hub lugs.
How to replace CV axle shaft and output shaft?
Bolt on the suspension strut to the steering knuckle along with the brake hose bracket bolt. Install the wheel and remove your jack and jack stands. Torque the axle shaft nut to around 150 lbs. Applying your body weight to the breaker bar should put you close to that torque. Fill your transmission with ATF.
When do you need to replace a CV joint?
Ball joints have rubber boots for protection. As with CV rubber boots, the ball joint must be replaced if the rubber boots are damaged. Most CV joints should have a retaining ring at the end of the inner CV joint spline. You will need to rotate the half shaft until the tabs on the case align with grooves on retaining rings.
How do you deform a CV axle?
In at staked nut setup, the cv axle shaft has a groove cut into it. Once the nut is torqued to spec, the assembler uses a chisel or pin punch to deform the lip of the nut by forcing it into the groove on the cv axle. That prevents the nut from loosening.
What to do if your CV axle nut is stuck?
