How do PD injectors work?
The injection on PD cars is timed by specific lobes on the cam, which open and close valves to allow fuel into the injector. Once the fuel gets into the injector, its pressure skyrockets to about 27800 psi. Essentially, these little injectors act as their own little high-pressure fuel pumps.
What is a Cummins STC injector?
STC, short for Step Timing Control, controls the engine timing in an effort to minimize white smoke at cold engine start-up. The engine operates in the ADVANCED mode of injection timing during starting and light load conditions and at NORMAL timing during medium to high load conditions.
How to adjust the valve and injector settings?

How are intake and exhaust valve clearance and fuel injector height adjusted?
Intake and exhaust valve clearance and fuel injector height are adjusted by means of an adjusting set screw and locknut located at the valve end of the rocker arm. See Figure “Valve and Fuel Injector Rocker Arm Assembly Components” .
When do valve lash and injector heights need to be adjusted?
Effective immediately, the valve lash and injector heights on all Series 60 engines must be measured and, if necessary, adjusted at the initial period listed in Table “Measurement/Adjustment Period” .
Where are the fuel injector and intake valves located?
