valve cover bolts should be 106 INCH lbs of torque. please note the inch pounds, not foot pounds.

After you get the coil packs off, then clean the dirt from around the valve cover. Then you can back out the 4 bolts that hold down the cover running along the center of the cover.

When to replace the valve cover on a Chevy?
My 2008 5.3 liter Chevy suffered from the dreaded oil consumption issues. However I had to go ahead and replace the OEM original valve cover with the updated one. Dear Chevy the unibody valve cover/ PCV is the dumbest engineered maneuver ever. You thoroughly removed the ease of changing out your pcv with your plugs and wires.
