Do you use stock springs on a CJ7?
The CJ’s are very front heavy, so heavy springs in the front. The ass end of CJs is light, so stock springs are adequate unless you load it down and keep it loaded all the time. Number of leaves doesn’t indicate spring rate.
What’s the difference between CJ and YJ front springs?
The YJ front springs are a little longer and wider than CJ front springs. The fixed spring hanger for the CJs front spring is the correct width because the CJ front spring uses a wide bushing in the back. It is the shackle side of the CJ that is not compatible with the YJ front springs.
When do Springs settle out on a CJ7 leaf?
Front springs will normally settle out about 2″ in the first year (especially with an I-6 or V-8, so don’t be overly conservative in the front. If you do a spring lift, do all 4 as an aftermarket set. If you keep the Spring Under Axle configuration, if you use mostly flat springs a shackle reversal won’t really help you.

Can you swap YJ springs for CJ Springs?
Swap out those stiff springs on your Jeep CJ to some nice soft YJ Wrangler springs. No doubt you’ve read about this swap somewhere thru the years, our new kit gives you an easy way to bolt on more a MUCH more comfortable suspension without any adverse effects at all.
Can a CJ spring over lift be used?
An SOA is a great way to accomplish this balancing act. The extra leverage by placing spring on tops of the axles gets you the same kind of flex as extreme coilover or 1/4 elliptic systems. Main difference is that you can still drive your CJ safely at 75MPH on the highway, and those extreme guys cannot.
