Can you keep gasoline in your trunk?
Do not drive with an empty or full gas can in your vehicle, even if it is located in your trunk. You will be exposed to the fumes and it is a potential fire hazard. If you absolutely need to transport a gas can, tie it to the roof rack of your vehicle and make sure it is empty.

What happens when the gas tank is half full?
A full tank could be providing enough “head pressure” (from the weight of the gas) on the pump pickup to help it be able to maintain fuel flow, but ehen the tank gets low and the head pressure drops the pump is insuffciently strong to maintain presusure on its own.
Where did the gasoline go in the trunk?
My gasoline can tipped over on it’s side while transporting it home inside the trunk of my car. I took everything out and so much spilled, it pooled all the way to the bottom of my car in the trunk, under the battery and all over the rugs. I soaked it all up as best as I could, removed the battery and soaked under that too.
