Can you flat pick with a thumb pick?
A thumb pick really isn’t supposed to be a replacement for a flat pick. Primarily it’s used to bring a flat pick type of sound to the steel string when playing finger style.
Is a thumb pick better?

Can I use a thumb pick for classical guitar?
Yes, of course. A lot of people use a pick on a classical guitar. It’s just that traditional players will never use a pick and always play with their fingers. We don’t recommend using a thumb pick as classical guitars already have a balanced tone and a thumb pick would make the bass strings too loud.
What is the difference between flatpicking and fingerpicking?
As you might have already noticed, the main difference between flatpicking and fingerstyle lies in the technique. Flatpicking requires you to use your fingers to hold a pick, while fingerstyle requires the use of your fingers as individual picks. Generally, it’s easier to play faster with a pick than with fingerstyle.
What size thumb pick should I get?
Unless you have a giant thumb, Medium is the size you want. Get a pack of 4 or 12 and the snugness will slightly vary between picks. Alternatively, place a pick in the microwave for 30- 60 seconds and slightly expand or squeeze the thumb opening.
