Can a front drive shaft be removed from a Grand Cherokee?
Front Drive shaft ? I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland and was wondering if I could remove my front drive shaft without couseing problems with the transmission or transfer case ? it is a quadraa drive setup. I was wanting to see if the fuel mileage would improve?

There is no viscous coupling in a 247 T-case, but a progressive coupling. I did remove my front propeller shaft for some weeks awaiting a new CV joint and my T-case is still ok.

Once the front drive shaft is removed, then you trash your transfer case. I did this with a ’96 ZJ 249 t-case with no ill effects because I had to get the shaft rebuilt and it was my only vehicle.
Why do I get jerkys on my front drive shaft?
Currently, when vehicle sits overnight or several hours, I get the jerkys when making a turn or two with the steering wheel. I had a shop look at the transfer case fluid and it was contaminated. Changed the fluid, but still have the jerkys, but not as bad.

Why is transfer case grinding on Jeep Grand Cherokee?
After transfer case was replaced the grinding was gone for about a week, then slowly came back. I am completely out of ideas. It does not happen every time, but most of the time. It’s as if some differential, transmission, transfer case is for that moment not having any lubrication in it.

I purchased a 2009 Grand Cherokee Limited brand new. After about 10 months and 9,000 miles the front differential went out, locking up the right front tire at 70 mph. Fortunately no traffiic around me so no injuries or damage to the body of the vehicle. Dealer replaced the front diff. under warranty.
