Are there any transmission problems with a 2006 Volvo XC90?
Generally speaking though, we don’t see a lot of transmission problems with that transmission in 2006. 2001-2003 (in the S60, V70 and XC70) seemed to have most of the issues, as far as 5 cylinders go. To answer your previous response about the transmission, I do not tow anything and never have.

You are lucky you don’t have the T6 XC90, those are the unreliable ones with a lot of transmission problems. The 5 cylinder is much more reliable. Of course, it is impossible to predict future problems, but I can go over some common things on the 5 cylinder XC90. First, maintenance wise, you will need the timing belt replaced at 120,000 miles.

Thats a tough question to answer, especially since according to Volvo, the transmission does not need service. Also, sometimes flushing the fluid can actually cause problems. The old fluid that is in there now has the friction material that has worn off the clutches.

How to remove oxygen sensor from Volvo XC90?
Get yourself a Oxygen Sensor removal tool for the two top ones. Makes LIFE ALOT easier, if not you would have to do it the long way and remove the headshield surrounding the turbos (2hr job this way, ask me i know haha).

So far, no recalls have been issued regarding this problem. The Volvo XC90 from 2003 has the most severe repair problems. The most troubling issue was the loss of power. A few drivers reported a loud clunking noise before all the car’s lights would go out and the windows failed to work. Interestingly, the engine itself would still run.
