How often do timing belts need to be changed?

Obviously you’re used to a vehicle with a timing belt, which generally need to be changed at intervals. On the old Chrysler 318/360 from the 70’s through the mid 80’s, the timing chain would wear and cause timing problems every 75k miles or so; this issue was solved in later designs, so while it’s possible for a chain to wear, it’s unlikely.
