Can a baby sleep in a Portacot all the time?

Are drop side cots banned in Australia?

What is a dropside cot?
A drop-side crib is built so that at least one side slides up and down (hence the “drop” in the name), so that a parent can access their baby without reaching so far over the side. Unfortunately, the feature that made drop-side cribs so convenient for parents also inadvertently made them dangerous for babies.
How do you remove the drop side of a crib?
Remove the screws holding the brakes in place and remove the brakes as well. Lift the rail, then press the bottom part with your knee to loosen it. Slide it all the way down and out of the bottom of the crib assembly. You may have to lift the crib or wiggle the side rail to free it completely.

Most of the safety failures relate to the portacot mattress either being not firm enough or not fitting snugly inside the portacot base. Soft or poorly-fitting mattresses can increase the risk of sudden unexpected infant death. SIDS charity Red Nose also recommends that parents choose mattresses that pass this test.
Are Portacots comfortable?
Travelling is more often than not stressful for babies and young children, and these new and unfamiliar environments can make it difficult for them to feel comfortable. Their portacot can be the one constant place they have that they feel safe and calm in when they sleep and play.
