Why is my V Star 1100 not starting?
Other threads in the forum indicate that you should never open the throttle when starting; otherwise it will cause kickback which will damage your starter clutch. Also low octane few is said to be a contributing factor. Hope this helps. I have the same bike 2003 V-Star 1100 Custom, and it is doing exactly what caiken above was describing.
Is there a problem with the Yamaha 1100 starter?
Bottom line Yamaha has a problem with their 1100 starter and starter clutches. Based on my search of the web it appears that Yamaha knows about the problem and will not step up to the plate and fix it. Last Yamaha for me. I have the same bike 2003 V-Star 1100 Custom, and it is doing exactly what caiken above was describing.
What can I do about the choke problem on my V-Star 1100?
Some have been able to simply remove the gas cap or shut off the fuel a short time before shutting off the bike to drain the bowls to help eliminate the issue, but the O ring removal seems to help pretty well. Many have also reported that the problem has all but disappeared when they modified the intake and went to a pod filter set up.
Why is my throttle not working on my Yamaha V-Star?
Float level too low, air leak between the carbs and intake, primary jets still clogged, CV diaphragms leaking, any other path for air to exceed the fuel flow. wouldn’t reving up the engine with the choke affect how it runs if it was the carb?

Is the VStar 1100 Silverado a good bike?
I have an 08′ vstar 1100 silverado with 45000 miles,no major problems yet,but a knock on this bike is the starter clutch. This is a $ 1500 repair when they go. The 1100 seems good given all the comments I’ve heard. I’ve a 1300 and love it.
Is the V Star 1300 a good bike?
Another thing you may want to consider is the V-star 1300. From what I hear it’s a good bike with a bit more engine. The big added plus to that is fuel injection. If you’re long legged and looking at a V-star you may want to look in to floor board extenders if you get a classic.
