Why is my dirt bike throttle getting stuck?
Debris can get caught between the throttle tube and the handlebar, and cause it to stick. Another culprit happens at the other end of the throttle cable. If you’ve changed your grips recently, a little too much glue can get between the handlebar and the throttle tube, and that can cause problems as well.
How do I make my dirt bike throttle more snappy?
If you remove the throttle tube from the bars and clean/lube it every now and then it keeps it working smooth. Buy an aluminum throttle tube that has a bearing at the end if you want a super smooth throttle.
How do you remove the throttle from a dirt bike?
In order to remove the throttle tube you’ll need to remove the two bolts that clamp your throttle tube to the handlebar, remove the throttle cables from the pulley and attachment (mine is the white piece in the second picture below) and then slide the throttle tube off of the handlebar.
What should you do if your throttle sticks on a motorcycle?
It is especially dangerous if this spontaneously happens while you’re out for a ride. If your throttle is sticking to the open position, do not attempt to turn on the motorcycle until the issue is resolved. Trying to start at such a high rev isn’t good for your motorcycle.
Why are my throttle cables twisted on my dirt bike?
Sometimes the throttle cables can, overtime, twist and bind or just be routed incorrectly. This also inhibits throttle performance. You might not notice a clear and present issue right away from twisted cables so what happens is you’ll feel it on a turn when the movement of the handlebars jostles the throttle cables.
What should I do if my throttle is not working?
Routine maintenance is always the answer to keep a throttle working and this should include a pre-ride inspection. When you open or “twist” the throttle and release, it should be smooth and snap back “closed” without any hesitation.

Why does my throttle stick on my dirt bike?
Believe it or not, new grips can interfere with proper throttle control either from the grip glue seeping in between the throttle tube and handlebars or wire tying the grips overly tight (this generally happens on plastic or nylon throttle tubes) pinches the tube to the handlebars causing it to stick.

Can a broken throttle tube cause a crash?
A broken throttle tube from a small crash also might not reveal itself right away only to impair power to the bike or really start working at the wrong time so be conscious of that post-crash during a Moto. However, the bottom line is nearly all throttle problems can and should be taken care of prior to riding.
