Why does my small engine only run with the choke on?
If your lawn mower only runs with the choke on, check the carburetor. The carburetor brings air and fuel together and mixes them in the perfect ratio for combustion before they enter the engine. There are several passages in the carburetor that allow fuel to enter the air stream depending how the throttle is set.
Why does my Honda gx160 only run choked?
When I open the choke and try to give it gas, it sputters and wants to die. I can play around with the choke and get it to a point where I can give it gas, it just doesn’t have much power.
Why does my Honda lawn mower only run with choke on?
Bought new carb fron Honda, that didn’t help as it does the same thing. I pulled muffler to eliminate it and still will only run with choke on. I even pulled the valve cover and everything in there looks fine. I’m at my witts end with this engine. I don’t know what else to do to it.
Why does an engine only run on choke?
An internal combustion engine needs a precise mixture of fuel and air to run properly. When the engine is cold, it needs slightly more fuel in the fuel/air mixture for it to start, which is what the choke does. The choke increases the amount of fuel in the mixture, creating a richer mixture.
What makes a Honda lawn mower engine not run?
I have a Honda GCV160 engine on my Husqvarna 21″ mower. When I choke it to start the mower the engine will run until the choke is shut off and then it dies. I have removed the carb and completely cleaned it- removed main jet and venturi tube, ect. What the heck am I missing here? Any suggestions would be appreciated-Thanks!!

What causes choke on Honda lawn mower to open?
When the engine starts up, the engine heat works to warm the wax cylinder to cause an expansion of the wax that pushes the piston out. This would force the choke control to move in the opposite direction for the choke plate to open; thus, more air would enter into the engine.
Is the choke open on a Honda gcv160?
Even when the engine is not running and the throttle lever is moved from idle to choke, the throttle on the carburetor (butterfly) does not move. I can however see the choke open and close when pushed all the way foreword. All of the springs are in place as far as I can tell.
