What was causing my Ranger to hesitate and die. The wire feed to the TPS (Throttle Positioning sensor) had a chafed spot I found when I went to inspect the TPS. I placed a piece of pipe insulation between the wiring and the Starter motor’s positive connection.

Why does my Polaris ATV not crank or click?
Okay. If it doesn’t have the right volts it won’t crank. Everything could work (lights, winch, etc.) But if the volts aren’t high enough it won’t crank, only click. You can check fuses and relays, will be a cheaper and easier fix than a new battery.

Installed a odyssey 925 battery no more problem. Take the battery to your local auto parts store and have them load test it. I have one of these in my dash all the time , cheap and easy way to monitor battery voltage and charging voltage . This sounds like a corrosion issue at the battery!

Then I cut the starter bolt to be a little shorter to aide on install. You only need 4-5 threads to hold bottom bolt on. I just finished replacing the starter in my 04 ranger.
