Why does my Lexus IS250 radio stop working?
I have a Lexus IS250… I have a Lexus IS250 and all of a sudden this morning the volume control for the radio stopped working. There is no sound and the when you turn the volume up there is no indication that the radio even recognizes the volume control. The radio tunes and the cd changer seems to be playing cd’s.

This issue is a build-up of carbon deposits in the engine. I know that ‘Seafoam’ is a really popular cleaner in the US that a lot of people use on many different cars that suffer this issue, but Seafoam is very difficult (and expensive) to get hold of in the UK. Can a bad AMP cause the Lexus IS 250 to not work?
4 people found this helpful. My 2014 IS 250 Lexus had the same problem with the radio working but no sound. It was a bad amp, I had it repaired at United Radio in NY. Lexus did a real smart thing installing the radio amp in the trunk/wheel well of the car where it can get damp/wet.

Lexus said it’s a problem with the “amplifier” possibly caused by an electrical short while being repaired. Three weeks later we’re still waiting for the part & the car is still at the Lexus dealer.
What to do if your radio won’t turn off?
Phooey! Fix #1 is, while radio is turned OFF, rotate the volume control 30-40 turns clockwise, and same counterclockwise. Try the radio, if fixed, great, if not, try it again a few times. This will *often* get the corrosion off, and your volume control will work fine – for a while.

Can a Lexus radio head unit be replaced?
Once I knew it was not a cabling issue I replaced the amp with a used lexus amp. Don’t install an after market amp as its much more complicated to get it to work properly with the lexus radio head unit. Just buy a like for like model that is used but tested as working.
Is it okay to buy a used IS250?
Yes it would still be okay to buy a used IS250 – the 4GR-FSE engine it uses has been in production by Toyota/Lexus for nearly 10 years, and has proven reliable. at least buy a 3is 250, due to refreshed look. but 200t is really a nice upgrade from 250. Six CD changer, Err message in display, will not play CD’s, will not eject or accept CD’s. Before repair, disconnect one of the car battery terminals for several minutes. This acts as a reset and may bring the changer back to working conditions. Note – DO NOT use CD’s with added labels. This may jam the 6 CD mechanisms causing damage.
