Why does my Jeep clunk when I put it in reverse?
Ok, one more note: the clunking sound is coming from the pinion/rear diff. Jeep got a 2.5” lift a couple weeks ago and now has 33” MTs. Any adjustment to the angle/pinion depth required? I guess I’m still not sure why it only clunks when going into reverse. Oh, and one more! Haha. Noise goes away when I put it in 4wd.
Why does my Jeep make a clunking sound when I Park?
Seems like something is binding and the deflection in the rear pinion can’t be good on the bearing. Unfortunately, I have no answers though if it were me I would probably disconnect the driveshaft from the transfer case and see if it still binds and makes a clunking sound. What makes a car clunk when backing out of the garage?
Today when backing out in the garage, as soon I started to reverse it sounded like I had hit something as a very loud clunk occurred. It was very startling. My husband looked under the car and couldn’t see anything. As we drove we heard continual clunking at low speeds.
Why does my car make a clunking sound when reversing?
The warranty guy wants us to drive it for about a week (unless there are serious clunks continuing) and then report back to him. He is suspecting something faulty in the emergency brake switch. He thinks it may be in the switch itself that is pressed to put it on and off.

What’s the reverse issue on a Jeep Wrangler?
It seems like it is in gear, but let out the clutch and it pops out. The only way to be sure it is in is to let the clutch out a bit and ” pop” it into gear. This is often accompanied by some embarrassing grinding and a bit of stress. Any thoughts- gladly appreciated. I’m having a worsening issue with my transmission.
