The S-Type was produced at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich facility in Birmingham, England. The car was styled by Geoff Lawson in 1995 and is based on the Jaguar DEW platform/Ford DEW platform, shared with the Lincoln LS and Ford Thunderbird.

Things to know: Most repair shops don’t understand these cars (even “european car experts)” so find an indie Jag shop with great reviews with technician (s) that know older Jags (most good techs will have a couple of beauties on display).
Is the Jaguar’s Type A good car?
It’s sensitive, responsive, fun, and literally purrs as it smoothly accelerates with ease. Incredibly comfortable in front and back, it handles like a dream, LOVES the highway, the curves, and never fails to turn heads in town. This has also been a very reliable car with surprisingly good mileage…as good as our Toyota!

This is the 2nd one I’ve owned. The first was the v6 (still a great car but we had a accident and totaled) Picked up a 03 s type v8 4.2L with 76000 miles for 3800 in EXCELENT condition. No problems just fast and still big enough to haul my 3 kids around
What should I look for when buying a used Jaguar?
If you buy used, check maintenance records and/or get it looked over by a good Jag mechanic to avoid one that has been neglected or serviced by non-Jag specialists, because those kinds of repairs will be costly and compromise reliability. I was gifted this car by my grandfather after he bought a new one. It is a beautiful car, inside and out.
