When was the last KTM RFS engine made?

When was the last KTM RFS engine made?

RFS = Racing Four Stroke. Last made in 2006 (I believe). These are near bulletproof. They were in the bikes up to 2007. Might still be in the quads, not sure about that. Last production year was 2007 actually.

When to check intake valves on KTM RFS?

Intake valves are the weak spot maybe 100-200 hours, exhaust maybe twice that. When they are done put in a set of Kibblewhites with properly cut seats and you will double or triple that interval. I would check the rings and the cylinder for wear after 300-400 hours.

Is the swingarm bearings on a KTM RFS worn out?

The wear on other items like swingarm bearings is also not anything specific to KTM or RFS, they will wear out just as slow or fast on any Japanese bike. Life expectancy has much more to do with your use of the bike and how you maintain it.

When was the last production year of the KTMS?

Last production year was 2007 actually. Long stroke, cam 4 stroke motor that is super luggable and tractable. No need for shims when adjusting valves, just the old screw and jam nut from the old days (very handy if you live out of the city).

What is the RFS engine in the KTMS?

It is a well known fact that the soft steel RFS intake valves are problematic in the long run. The long-lasting cure is to replace with stainless steel valves after the stock valves have recessed so far that they can no longer be adjusted. How much does it cost to rebuild a KTM RFS?

Requires the cases to be split to replace… For $600 you can get a whole new crankshaft from Munn Racing, for $450 an OEM rod kit (not really good value), or for $120 a Hotrods or $150 ProX rod kit. Both aftermarket brands seem to hold up very well, I prefer the Hotrods as it comes with a bronze bushed small end.
