When does the outside air temp change?
Once the new outside air temperature reading exceeds the previous temperature and the vehicle is traveling less than 18 mph (29 km/h), the displayed outside air temperature will remain at its last value. Once the vehicle speed exceeds 18 mph, the displayed outside air temperature will be updated.
What’s the outside temp on a Chevy Tahoe?
The outside temp sensor reads a bit higher than it actually is outside. I can understand a couple degree difference since it is located near the radiator, but sometimes mines off 5-6 degrees (reads 98/99 when it’s actually 93 out). I believe the Tech2 has the ability to reset this.
What happens when the outside temp is too high?
If the engine was not off long enough or the current outside air temperature is higher than the stored value from the previous ignition cycle, the last stored value of outside air temperature taken will be displayed.

What happens when the temperature reading is very off?
So if the temperature reading is VASTLY off, it can trigger CEL. Mine’s off just enough to cause CEL about twice a year, once when weather gets warm and once when it cools down noticeably. I don’t know what the parameter is, and mine chugs along without an issue otherwise, so I just clear the CEL and drive on.
What happens when the outside temperature sensor is off?
That outside temperature sensor is tied to the ECU, and is part of the data that determines the engine operation parameter, believe it or not. So if the temperature reading is VASTLY off, it can trigger CEL. Mine’s off just enough to cause CEL about twice a year, once when weather gets warm and once when it cools down noticeably.
What happens if the outside temperature gauge goes out of order?
The gauge displays outside temperature to that of the cabin’s temperature. And that is when the ambient temperature sensor comes into the picture. The sensor examines the outside temperature info and presents it on the driver display. If in case the sensor goes out of order, one needs to replace it for sure.

What to do if ambient temp reading is incorrect?
If an owner has a concern with the function or accuracy of the ambient air temperature display, perform the instant update to determine if the display will read an accurate temperature. To perform an instant update of the Ambient Temperature Sensor, simultaneously press and hold the Recirculation button and A/C button on the HVAC control head.
