When did my 50cc GY6 scooter start having problems?
I purchased it new in the crate in 2013 as a left over from the dealer. It is common for 50cc GY6 Scooters valves to need adjusting every so often. My scooter had about 500 miles on it when the trouble began. Within 3 mos. and 200 miles later, it was so bad that I started replacing parts.
Why is my 50cc Scooter having a hard time starting?
My 50cc Roketa scooter is having a hard time starting… it has spark and fuel. I tried 3 new carburetors, a new coil, cdi, spark plugs from another new scooter. The scooter will start after long cranking and working throttle. When it starts, scooter runs great. It has new gas in it. The scooter has 680 miles on it.
Why does my rocketa scooter slowly stop running?
I have a 2011 Rocketa 49.3 GY6 139QMB and have replaced the carburetor, petcock valve, CDI, all of the vacuum lines, adjusted the air flow and gas until it idles perfect and then, when I take off, it makes it two blocks, bogs down and dies! It will continue doing this about 5 or 6 times and then start running good but not great.
What’s the clearance on a 50 cc moped?
That fixed it. At 680 miles it might be time for a valve adjustment. 50 cc scooters start out with .00197 inch clearance to start with and could have tightened up on the exhaust valve. My 50 cc mopeds were tight at 180 miles. Check and set both valves at .003 inch.

Can a Chinese scooter run in the Cold?
When the scooter is warmed up it runs great but I need to stay on the throttle for 20 minutes cause it will stall at idle as well. Today was 55 degrees out, when I got it running good I went to the store, 15 minutes it was not running, started and ran good for 1/2 mile then bogged down and stalled at my 1st light.

Why does my scooter not start when I put gas in it?
If you are getting a spark and you are getting gas to the carburetor and the engine is turning over on the starter OK, it’s possible that the electrically operated automatic choke has failed. It’s supposed to operate when the engine is cold, but if it’s stuck or burned out, the mixture will be weak and the scooter probably won’t start.
What to do if choke on scooter wont start?
If the automatic choke is OK, the starter cranks the engine, there’s gas and there’s a spark then there may be an engine problem. You need to check the cylinder compression. You need a compression tester to do this. It screws in instead of the spark plug and measures cylinder pressure.
Why does my scooter engine slowly stop running?
When the engine is cold and the valve adjustment is too tight, but not so tight as to keep the exhaust valve open, the engine will start. As the engine warms up and the valves and rocker arms expand due to heat, the valve is forced open and cannot close. You then have no compression and the engine stops running.
Is the GY6 150cc ignition system easy to troubleshoot?
This guide covers almost any of the 150cc buggies, scooters, or ATV’s with the standard “AC” CDI setup. The first version was downloaded over 136,494 times and we’re happy that this information continues to help so many people! The 150cc GY6 ignition system is fairly easy to troubleshoot in the case of malfunction.
How can I get spark out of GY6 150cc?
This can be done with a sharp narrow tool like an ice pick or stiff paper clip. Looking from the front of the plug, you will see small metal tabs on each pin which secure them to the plug. Push the tab down and the pin will release. Don’t use force here. Depending on your stator type, you have either 6, 8, or 11 windings.

What to do if your scooter won’t turn over?
Check your owner’s manual to make sure that you are doing all you need to to complete the electrical circuit which enables it to start. If the scooter doesn’t turn over when you’ve done all the required operations, there’s an electrical problem with the battery. Make sure the battery is charged. If it is, make sure the fuse hasn’t blown.
Why does my scooter slowly stop running after 1500 miles?
The problem is a valve adjustment and it seems to rear its’ ugly head starting somewhere around the 1500 mile mark. When the engine is cold and the valve adjustment is too tight, but not so tight as to keep the exhaust valve open, the engine will start.

Why does my electric scooter not start up?
If the scooter has been sitting for a few months with gas in the carburetor, the gas may have evaporated and left a sticky “gum” behind that will prevent the carburetor from working properly and which must be removed. If the automatic choke is OK, the starter cranks the engine, there’s gas and there’s a spark then there may be an engine problem.
What to do if your motor scooter won’t idle?
If you find the intake valve is too loose, twist it by hand in a clockwise direction until you reach the desired clearance level. Once you are happy you can just about slide a .004 feeler gauge behind your intake valve then you can re-tighten the intake valve nut and reassemble the intake valve cover and the rest of your scooter.

Why do I keep bogging down on GY6?
We’ve launched an improved GY6 Technical Center for 2014! We’re in the process of bringing all of these old articles to the new system. Check it out for new content you won’t find here! Bogging down is usually caused by one (or more) of three things. Running rich, running lean, or a weak spark.
Why is my gx150 running so rich?
Running rich (too much fuel in the air/fuel mix) could be caused by several things. The most common cause is a failing automatic choke unit. The choke on the GX150 carburettor is actually an enrichening circuit and in reality does not choke off any airflow at all.
