The first time, I hadn’t used it for 3-4 days. It turned over for about a second and then stopped – a bit like the battery was flat, but it was quite a sudden stop. I then turned the key again – engine turned over for about a second and then fired as usual. This morning, same thing. I used the car Monday so it’s only had one day of rest.

Here is the crankshaft position sensor on Porsche Cayennes fitted with the V8 engine. The sensor is located on the right side of the transmission bellhousing right where is bolts up to the engine. Removal of the sensor is relatively easy. Simply remove the 8mm hex bolt (yellow arrow) holding the sensor (green arrow) to the transmission bellhousing.

What causes the starter to fail on a Cayenne?
Its not uncommon to have the starter fail on a Cayenne – usually affected by the vee pipes failing and flushing the starter which damages the motor but is not seen when the pipes are replaced as the coolant has run away. Cayennes should spin over quickly with a charged battery. I assume your car has a single battery network?

Why does my Porsche Cayenne make a fan sound?
It is the “regular” sound the car/key makes when it starts normally,it just may sound more exaggerated. When we try to start it though, the key turns and then the fan comes on and goes super fast. ? Sometimes the display will say “Press brake pedal” and if you do and hold it down, the fans really start goin.
What’s the volt meter on a Porsche Cayenne?
Turned it again, and started up as usual. Volt meter goes straight up to around 14, so at least the alternator is working. I’m not convinced it’s the battery for a couple of reasons.
