What should I do when my moped wont start?
When the engine is cranked over, you should feel your hand being sucked into the carb. It should also get wet with fuel. This will force choke the engine, and after doing this for a few cranks, the engine will draw fuel into itself. Then hold the throttle wide open, and crank again, to see if you get a “pop”.
Why is my bike cranking but not starting?
When the motor cranks 180 degrees, the pickup coil signal turns the voltage back on, so you might have to crank the motor briefly to measure this voltage. If no voltage, you probably have a pickup coil or TCI problem. See the Battery and Electrical Tech Tips.
How do you know if a moped engine is plugged?
Turn the engine over while holding your hand about 2-3″ from the exhaust tip. You should be able to feel air pressure coming out of the muffler every time the engine turns over, proving that the exhaust pipe is not plugged. 5. Set the choke and turn the engine over. After several cranks, the engine should start, or at least start to “pop”.
What to do if choke on scooter wont start?
If the automatic choke is OK, the starter cranks the engine, there’s gas and there’s a spark then there may be an engine problem. You need to check the cylinder compression. You need a compression tester to do this. It screws in instead of the spark plug and measures cylinder pressure.

What should I do if my bike won’t crank?
Remove each spark plug, ground it against the engine, see if you have a bright healthy spark. (Don’t crank the engine with spark plug caps not attached to the plugs, or with the plugs not grounded to the engine, you could damage the coils.)
What causes a scooter to have power but not start?
Check the Engine Ignition and Fuel System: In most cases, the problem with a scooter not starting but with power is caused by an issue with the engine; either a bad spark plug wire, bad plug or a fuel system problem.
Why does my car not start when I crank the engine?
If the engine doesn’t crank, or makes an unusual noise when cranking, you may have a starting system problem. The car’s security system may have made an error that disabled the fuel or ignition system, or the chip in the key may have failed.
