What causes my car rpm to go up and down?
My car has 185000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission. An incomplete combustion in the engine will cause a sputter as can the ignition system. The fuel system, such as a blocked fuel injector may also cause the vehicle to sputter.
Why does my car Rev by itself when idle?
It sounds like you may have a dirty or failing idle air control valve. The idle air control valve monitors the air intake as it is mixed with fuel prior to being injected into the engine at low speeds and at idle.
Why is my truck revving up and down?
If it fails after that, it’s because it was destined to fail regardless of what you do. When I bought my truck in 2011, the engine was knocking and the fluid was old and brown so it was obviously neglected. 100k km and 5 year later, still have the same tranny.

What happens when you go over 4000 rpm?
The engine computer has a built in rev limiter built in to the programming that will not let the engine go above 3800 to 4000 rpms when the transmission is not in gear and driving down the street. This is a normal protection so you do not over rev the engine and damage it. Was this answer helpful? Thank you for your feedback! Sorry about that.
