What is the meaning of neurocysticercosis?
Neurocysticercosis is a preventable parasitic infection caused by larval cysts (enclosed sacs containing the immature stage of a parasite) of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium). The larval cysts can infect various parts of the body causing a condition known as cysticercosis.
How is Taenia solium diagnosed?
Diagnosis of Taenia tapeworm infections is made by examination of stool samples; individuals should also be asked if they have passed tapeworm segments. Stool specimens should be collected on three different days and examined in the lab for Taenia eggs using a microscope.
What does Taenia Saginata look like?
saginata has a strong resemblance to the other human tapeworms, such as Taenia asiatica and Taenia solium, in structure and biology, except for few details. It is typically larger and longer, with more proglottids, more testes, and higher branching of the uteri. It also lacks an armed scolex unlike other Taenia.

What causes Taenia saginata?
If you consume contaminated food or drinks, you may contract a parasite that can live and sometimes grow and reproduce inside your body. Taeniasis is an intestinal tapeworm infection caused by eating contaminated beef or pork. It’s also known by the following names: Taenia saginata (beef tapeworm)
What happens neurocysticercosis?
Symptoms of neurocysticercosis depend upon where and how many cysts are found in the brain. Seizures and headaches are the most common symptoms. However, confusion, lack of attention to people and surroundings, difficulty with balance, excess fluid around the brain (called hydrocephalus) may also occur.
What are the symptoms of neurocysticercosis?
Symptoms of neurocysticercosis may include the following:
- Nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain.
- Headache.
- Lethargy.
- Confusion.
- Vision changes.
- Balance problems.
- Weakness or numbness.
- Seizure (often the presenting symptom, occurs in about 70% of people with NCC)
What causes Taenia solium?
T. solium taeniasis is acquired by humans through the ingestion of the parasite’s larval cysts (cysticerci) in undercooked and infected pork. Human tapeworm carriers excrete tapeworm eggs in their faeces and contaminate the environment when they defecate in open areas. Humans can also become infected with T.
What is the class of Taenia saginata?

What is the differences between Taenia saginata and Taenia Solium?
The key difference between Taenia solium and Taenia saginata is that the pigs are the intermediate hosts of Taenia solium, while the cattle are the intermediate hosts of Taenia saginata. Tapeworms are parasitic segmented flatworms which are several meters long.
