What is the camshaft correlation code for a 98 k1500?
A so I have a 98 k1500 with the 5.7 vortec and im havimg trouble with a code. The code is the dreaded p1345 camshaft crankshaft correlation. When I checked my timing with a timing light it was about 1/4″ off but runs great so I tried to re time it and the closer I get to the timing mark the worse it runs till it wont start.

How does the camshaft position ( CMP ) sensor work?
The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is triggered by a notched reluctor wheel built into the exhaust camshaft sprocket. The CMP sensor provides 6 signal pulses every camshaft revolution. Each notch, or feature of the reluctor wheel is of a different size for individual cylinder identification.
What causes a broken crankshaft and camshaft sensor?
Damaged, burnt, shorted, disconnected, or corroded wiring and/or connectors in wiring that is associated with either, or both the crank -, and camshaft position sensors Defective, cracked, clogged, damaged, or broken crankshaft-mounted reluctor ring.
What causes an engine code on a Chevy Vortec?
While this error code can be caused by a faulty camshaft position sensor (CMP) or crankshaft position sensor (CPS), the issue a lot of the time relates to engine timing. On older Chevy engines, specifically the 5.7 Vortec, for which this code is most common, the problem generally stems from the Distributor positioning.
How are the positions of the crankshaft and camshaft related?
In most cases, the signal is created when a single point on the camshaft passes in front of the sensor as the camshaft rotates. Regardless of design specifics though, the positions of the crank -, and camshafts have to be in agreement relative to piston #1 if the ignition spark and fuel are both to be delivered at the optimal moment.
