What does a Honda rectifier do?

What does a Honda rectifier do?

The rectifier regulator converts AC power to DC allowing the alternator to charge the battery, and controls the amount of power delivered to the battery.

What happens if you put DC into a rectifier?

If we look at the basics, a bridge rectifier converts pure ac to pulsating dc with the use of 4 diodes or SCR’s . That means a pair of diodes will act as a short circuit path to the negative half of the cycle and will allow us to obtain or draw the negative half as output.

Can you put DC through a rectifier?

Yes, you can put DC into a bridge rectifier. You don’t have to worry about polarity, the bridge will route the voltage for you. You will loose about 1.4 volts through the bridge.

What does Green mean on Honda Goldwing regulator?

Green is ground, Yellow is a tap from one of the alternator wires. Now the Black wire is the reference or “sense” wire, it is the voltage on this wire that the old regulator used to set the charging voltage over the battery. Here is the problem.

Where is the rectifier on a Honda Goldwing?

The original GL1000 electrical system has a separate rectifier (located on the forward side of the battery box, part number 31700-371-000 ) and a voltage regulator ( part number 31400371003 ) located inside the left side of the false tank.

What are the wires on a Honda rectifier?

There are three wires green, yellow and black. Green is ground, Yellow is a tap from one of the alternator wires. Now the Black wire is the reference or “sense” wire, it is the voltage on this wire that the old regulator used to set the charging voltage over the battery.

How many volts does a Goldwing car battery have?

Like almost any automotive battery, the GoldWing battery has 6 cells, typical voltage 12V. A good charging system supplies a maximal voltage of 14.4 Volts (6 x 2.4 V).

Where are the connectors on a Honda GL1000?

The bolt holes line up. The GL1000 has a single connector and the Bros has two small connectors one with three yellow wires and the other with two green and two red+white wires. I cut off the connectors because mine on the wiring harness were badly corroded, matched up the wires and soldered them together.
