What causes the oil pressure light to flicker on an?
The light flickering means it is at borderline oil pressure. Could be due to a worn oil pump, too thin of oil, bad sending unit… Well, it may actually be low oil pressure which you don’t want at all… I guess they changed it on the DOHC, the standard 3.0L in my old taurus required 5W-30. What should the oil pressure be at idle?
An oil pressure test should be checks of the oil pressure at idle, at 1,000 rpm, at 2,000 rpm, and at 3,000 rpm. YOU could do these checks with a $15 oil pressure test gauge. If the oil pressure is OK at rpms above idle, it shows that the oil pump is up to the task; though, the engine may be rather worn.
Why does the oil pressure light go off when you step on the gas?
This just means that with 193000 miles tour bearings are worn and at idle the oil flows through them too quickly to maintain enough pressure to keep the light off. As long as the light goes off when you step on the gas you have nothing to worry about, you probably have many more miles in this engine.
Why does the oil pressure light flicker when idle?
So, I think I finally solved the EGR port problem and I am trying to make sure this van runs for another 30-80K miles. When the engine idles and the oil is pretty hot, the oil lamp (idiot light) on the dash flickers and is sometimes steady, but you can feel the engine doing it’s thing while the oil light flickers.
When does the oil pressure light come on?
YOU could do these checks with a $15 oil pressure test gauge. If the oil pressure is OK at rpms above idle, it shows that the oil pump is up to the task; though, the engine may be rather worn. If it is OK at the higher rpms, you can nurse some more time out of the engine. ok4450 July 5, 2016, 11:09pm #9
