What can community action help with?
Community Action Agencies (CAA) were created to help those in need. They can, assist people with paying bills and expenses, provide grants and other emergency short term financial aid, assist individuals with finding jobs, and most importantly promote self-sufficiency.
Is community action a government agency?
Community Action Agencies (CAA) are private nonprofit or public organizations that were created by the federal government in 1964 to combat poverty in geographically designated areas.
How is Community Action funded?
CAAs are intended to promote self-sufficiency, and they depend heavily on volunteer work, especially from the low-income community. The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is the agencies’ core federal funding. Agencies also operate a variety of grants that come from federal, state and local sources.
How many times will community action help?
Households who meet the income guidelines may receive assistance twice a year (once in the summer and once in the winter). Eligible households in the target population (elderly, disabled or children age 5 or younger) may receive assistance up to 4 times per year.
