A little more than 60 years ago, the skies over McKinney darkened on May 3, 1948 and spawned a tornado whose 100 mph winds killed three people, injured 43 people, obliterated 100 homes in McKinney and caused damage to an elementary school, the Texas Textiles Cotton Mill and the city hospital.
