Is there a limit to the speedometer advance?

How many miles per hour can a speedometer read?
On the high side, it’s allowed to read up to 10% above the actual speed plus four or six kilometers per hour, depending on the type of vehicle. Compare this chart to the first one. The most a speedometer can be off at that same 100 mph (160 kph) is nearly 13 mph.
Can a speedometer be off on a European Car?
No matter what make and model you drive, your speedometer is definitely off. Case in point, at highway speeds it will almost always show a faster rate than you’re actually traveling. And if your car’s European, the problem’s even worse.
Why does my speedometer always show the correct speed?
This is likely due to European Union specification ECE 39, which requires that speedometers NEVER display a lower speed than actual, taking all tolerances into account. In other words, speedometers used to be designed to display the correct speed, with a ± tolerance (which in practice was almost always negligible).
What’s the legal speed for a speedometer to show?
A speedo must never show less than the actual speed, and must never show more than 110% of actual speed + 6.25mph. So if your true speed is 40mph, your speedo could legally be reading up to 50.25mph but never less than 40mph. Or to put it another way, if your speedo is reading 50mph,…
