Is it normal for the dipstick to be hot?
Your dipstick is supposed to be hot. The oil runs over the hot mechanisms and back into the pan and cooler oil cycles through again. The warmer your engine the better it will run. Can you drive right after adding oil?
if it is after you change no need to wait. if you are just adding oil no need to wait. you mean to check oil level. just wait till a couple of minutes till the oil runs down, full is 1/2 between the lines, not the top line.
What should I do if my dipstick does not show oil level?

What does a dipstick test for coolant look like?
Lesson No. 5 – Signs of Coolant Leak Brown bubbles or a dried crusty-brown residue above the oil level line on the dipstick could be an indication that coolant (water and antifreeze) has leaked into your engine.
