Its not ‘MAX but a little bit over is OK’. It may read max on the dipstick, but generally there is a bit of head room to go over the max line. A crank hitting the oil will make a distinct “gloop gloop” noise. Takes about 10 cm above full level to do this. No noise = no problem. With a 2.4 Camry that is fine. You did measure it on a flat surface??
