Why do I have to rotate the caliper piston on my Mazda 3?

They are robust, but not against hammer blows!! There is an internal spring that must be compressed before it will back off. Some cars have light enough springs that you can do it by hand (needle-nose). But the Mazda3 springs is pretty stout….I couldn’t do it by hand either.
