How to change the transmission fluid through a dipstick?
Place a funnel into the dipstick tube, and pour in one quart of fresh transmission fluid at at time, checking the fluid level with the dipstick after each quart. Repeat this until the dipstick reads full. Changing the transmission fluid in this manner should only be done as a short-term fix, as it does not properly clean the filters or gaskets.
How do you get fluid out of a transmission pan?
Remove the six 10mm bolts and nuts that hold the plastic cover under neath the transmission pan. This will expose a 14mm drain bolt, and a 5mm hex overflow bolt. Open the 14mm bolt and let all the fluid drain into a catch can.
Is there a way to check the transmission oil?
As mentioned, the overnight wait is for filling the fluid, not draining it. The fluid should be drained and the sump removed when warm in order to maximise how much fluid can be removed. The cost of the fluid is quite reasonable if you look around, certainly you can purchase fluid at £6 per litre.
How do you change the transmission fluid in a Toyota?
Toyota really doesn’t want you playing with the transmission. Well next you’ll have to jack it up (with the vehicle level) and have a look underneath. Remove the six 10mm bolts and nuts that hold the plastic cover under neath the transmission pan. This will expose a 14mm drain bolt, and a 5mm hex overflow bolt.
Where is my ATF dip stick in my Elantra?
80’s Honda’s, Toyota’s, Nissan’s, etc., all had dipsticks, easiest thing in the world in a FWD vehicle, just drill a hole in the top of the AT and screw in a fitting with a stick on it. May buy the Limited anyway, and see about making my own.
Where is the drain and fill plug on my ATF dip stick?
There is a drain and fill plug, but you need service info to find their locations. You can drop the pan to change the filter (something that is NOT normally done because most trans shops simply flush out old fluid and new while leaving the old filter installed).
Why did I remove my ATF dip stick?
But here is the deal, the transmission has to be cold to fill it to the top, fluid expands drastically and if checked hot, will lose fluid, TC slips and clutches wear out. Really stupid to remove this stick. Thought Hyundai would have more brains
