The Vauxhall VXR8 GTS-R can lay claim to being its maker’s most powerful road model as well as its last to use a V8 engine. It’s powered by a supercharged 6.2-litre LSA V8 that’s received hardware and software upgrades to produce 587bhp and 546lb ft of torque.

What engine is in the VXR8?
The VXR8 is the successor to both the Vauxhall Monaro VXR and the Vauxhall Omega/Carlton. Initially powered by a 411 bhp (306 kW) Gen IV LS2 6.0 litre V8, from late 2009 it was upgraded to the Gen IV LS3 6.2 litre V8 with 425 bhp (317 kW), shared with the Chevrolet Corvette C6 and the Chevrolet Camaro SS.
Are VXR8 reliable?
Reliability and Safety Vauxhall only plans to sell 100 VXR8s a year, but there’s no reason to suspect the car won’t be reliable. The tried-and-tested LSA 6.2-litre V8 is used in many US muscle cars, plus the VXR8 is essentially hand-built by Holden’s special HSV division.

Although official figures have yet to be released, Vauxhall claims the car has a 0-60mph sprint time of around 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 180mph – quicker than the 177mph Lotus Carlton.
