Boulder Bay from Taylor’s Mistake Walk This Coastline walk can take up to two hours. From Taylors Mistake car park take the track in front of the quaint squatters’ cottages. At the end of the beach there is a stile. The track proper starts here, An invigorating walk for the family, with wonderful sea and cliff views.

From here the Godley Head Gun Emplacements Track carries on around the nose of the headland, past the historic military buildings. This area includes the Battery Observation posts located at the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour. It ends at the public carpark at Godley Head. There are toilets here.

There are toilets at Godley Head carpark and at Taylors Mistake. The sealed road to this track is narrow, has sharp corners and steep drops off the sides. Drive with care. The Summit Road to Godley Head is popular with cyclists. Keep left, reduce speed and keep a lookout for oncoming cyclists.
Where to park at Godley Head with kids?
When you google the Godley Heads Track, you will see there is a carpark up at the heads. You can do the walk from there, but we love to park at Taylors Mistake beach as it means its all downhill on the way back. It also puts the interesting historical landmarks at the halfway mark, which is when the kids start to need entertaining.
How long does it take to walk around Godley Head?
If you really want to see the old WWII relics, then you could also drive to the Godley Head carpark on the Summit Road. There is parking up here and also the Godley Head campsite. From there you could walk around the head in perhaps 45 minutes, depending on the pace of little feet.
