How do you remove a reed valve from an engine?
Use a socket wrench and sockets to remove the manifold from the engine intake. Pull the reed valve manifold apart by hand once it is loose from the engine. Take out the old reed petals and replace them with a new set. Re-bolt the reassembled manifold to the engine again with the socket wrench.
How often does a reed valve open and close?
This means that reeds can open & close thousands of times per minute. Each cycle, the total of which must be counted in millions, uses a bit of reed petal „life” since pretty much every material has limited fatigue capability.
Where is the engine number on a JR50?
The basic engine was also used in the ALT50 and LT50. Your engine number is on the engine case, at the base of the barrel, front left. 24 degrees BTDC @ 3000rpm.
What to do when fuel spills out of reed valve?
Hold the end of the fuel line in your hand with a shop rag and slowly turn the fuel supply on to see if fuel is flowing properly. Turn it off when fuel begins to spill out onto the rag. Place the carburetor and fuel line aside.

How can I check the sealing of my reed valve?
Reeds should be occasionally checked for proper sealing and lack of chipped material or cracks. One of the ways to check for proper sealing is to direct reed valve cone (with reeds outside) towards a strong light source. If no light can be seen from the inside of reed vale assembly this means that sealing is very good.
