How do you check the CVT?
Checking CVT Fluid Level
- Park the vehicle on level ground (engine running, parking brake set).
- Using a scan tool, ensure that the CVT fluid operating temperature is within the range of 170°F-180°F (77°C-82°C).
- Shift the transmission into REVERSE for 5 seconds.
- Shift the transmission into DRIVE for 5 seconds.
What kind of CVT fluid does a Lancer use?
Keep in mind that it currently only meets the Mitsubishi CVTF-J1 spec. At some point there must have been a change in the transmission, because more recent Lancers (I believe 2012 MY13 and onwards) now require Mitsubishi CVTF-J4 spec fluid. That is the Mitsubishi spec designation, SAM is right that you have to get the right CVT variation fluid!
How often should CVT fluid be changed in a Mitsubishi Outlander?
Note that the recommendations below apply to models with CVT-type transmissions only. Infiniti- JX35, QX60- 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or 36 months, whichever comes first. Mitsubishi- Lancer, Mirage, Outlander, Eclipse Cross- 30,000 miles (48,000 km)
How often should I Change my CVT oil?
The oil change interval for CVT transmissions varies for each automaker. Below is a list of car brands and models along with the suggested CVT fluid change schedule. CVT fluid certainly wears out over time. It should be changed much sooner than automatic or manual transmission oil.
Why do you have to change CVT fluid?
CVT fluid has to be in acceptable condition to protect against metal-to-metal contact. It also has to provide the correct frictional properties. Once the CVT fluid has broken down, poor performance and accelerated wear can start. CVT transmissions are very expensive to replace.
