How do you dig a landscape edging trench?
Just take a flat-edged shovel and dig straight down 3 inches along the outer edge of the lawn. Then dig a second slice that’s at a 45-degree in the direction of the border or bed. So you’ll end up with a trench that’s straight downward on the lawn side and angled up to the border. Remove the extra soil.

What kind of stakes do you use for lawn edging?
Stakes for plastic lawn edging are either straight or perpendicular in shape. These are installed in the same way. Note: Stakes help to sturdy the garden bed and edging as the soil moves over time. This way, the edging cannot move any further away from the bed, and the soil will tightly compact it in the trench.
How do you put black edging on a bed?
Tough to dig with a shovel in a lot of the ground. I’d suggest using an old ax and beat it down into the ground with a 4lb hammer and then wiggle the ax to make a wide slit. Keep doing this and then insert your black plastic edging and tamp down around it.
How to install plastic edging in a trench?
Unravel the plastic edging and cut the amount you need to fit around your defined areas. Push it down into the trench until only ¼ to ½ inch is visible on the ground. Keeping any more visible on the top is not advisable because it may cause you or someone else to trip.
