FYI, if the screens are not restricted so terribly bad and the actual problem (P2646) is a sticking spool valve in the VTEC (or sticking solenoid) a Bucks worth of Marvel just might correct the problem or possibly help dissolve some of the gum (or gunk) trapped in the screens.

What to do when Honda Element Light comes back on?

I’d suggest giving the engine a “shot” of Marvel Mystery Oil just for good measure. (Especially if the light comes back on.) You might also put a “shot” in the gas tank to lube and clean the injectors. This thread is germane. I’m not sure Marvel Mystery Oil is going to help.
