How can you tell if your car thermostat is bad?
Watch the thermometer. When the temperature rises to the number you recorded in step #6, the thermostat will start to open. If it does not, or if it doesn’t open until reaching a different temperature (hotter usually), then the thermostat is bad and should be replaced. If it opens at the designated temperature, then the thermostat is just fine.
Why is the engine thermostat in the closed position?
The flow of coolant does not cycle through the radiator unless it is hot and needs to be cooled. When an engine is cold, the radiator fluid is cold, so the thermostat is in the closed position. When the engine starts up, and the coolant warms.
Where does the thermostat housing meet the radiator?
The thermostat housing is right where the radiator hose meets the engine housing. It looks like half of a metal baseball. When the thermostat becomes stuck, it is reasonable to simply replace it. Also, when the thermostat housing is removed, the housing gasket should be replaced even if you’re just checking it.
What to do when your engine thermostat is stuck?
When an engine is cold, the thermostat should be closed, thus bypassing the radiator. Warm (not hot!) engine test: Open hood and remove radiator cap. Start engine. Observe coolant action. It should be swirling vigorously. When an engine is warm, the thermostat is in the open position.
What is the coolant temp on a Mopar thermostat?
Oem replacement works perfectly. Had an engine code P0128 show up which indicates the thermostat didn’t close when it was suppose to and the engine temp was too cool. Needle usually runs just left of center around 11:00. Coolant temp usually reads between 190 and 200F which is normal. Not sure what happened that one morning.
Is the Mopar thermostat for a 2014 Jeep JKU?
Perfect fit for my 2014 jeep jku. I noticed a sweet antifreeze smell, and noticed the engine was getting hot. I was low on coolant, found out these are plastic and like to get hairline cracks and leak. YUP, when my engine was shut off and cooling after a drive, about 15 minutes into cooling it would start leaking out the crack.
How do you remove a Mopar thermostat from a radiator?
Loosen the hose clamp on the radiator hose going to the thermostat and wiggle it loose allowing the coolant to run into your bucket. Use the 10mm socket to remove the two bolts on the thermostat. This is where it really poured out.
What does the code p0128 mean on a Mopar thermostat?
Had an engine code P0128 show up which indicates the thermostat didn’t close when it was suppose to and the engine temp was too cool. Needle usually runs just left of center around 11:00. Coolant temp usually reads between 190 and 200F which is normal. Not sure what happened that one morning. Might have been a fluke.
Why does my Mercedes-Benz radiator temperature gauge not work?
Its either the thermo opening or air moving across the radiator. Most all cars run cooler radiator temps underway than in traffic. Thats good, the gauge actually works, unlike my POS Land Rover that wont budge a mm between 180-235F :banghead: The gauge should register 90C and shouldn’t vary regardless of outside temp or load.
