It’s best to stay away from Teflon tape on any brake/fuel system. Just use any good pipe thread sealant (paste) with Teflon or PTFE, and only on pipe fittings. Never use Teflon tape on ANY Hydraulic fittings it is a no no. The tape can break free and get lodged in the seals.
Do you put anything on brake line fittings?
Adding Teflon tape keeps the parts from joining as they were designed to. You should always follow the specifications when installing them, as overtightening the threads will cause damage and a leak in your brake lines. If they leak or do not fit, replace them, and save yourself the trouble.
What does it mean when your brake line is leaking?
Brake lines will leak at the flare when there is a poor connection with the seat of the fitting. This type of leak is commonly known as a weep. It is the result of a tiny imperfection in the flare that occurs while flaring the tube.
Why are there bubbles coming out of my brake line fitting?
If bubbles appear at the fitting, the seal is no good. Repeat the lapping process until you get no bubbles. On the left you can see the bubbles coming out of the fitting indicating a bad seal between the flared tube and fitting. The bubble-free fitting on the right indicates a good seal.
How do you fix a leaky brake line fitting?
