Do you need to Grease Your wheel bearings before installing?
You DID NOT buy a hub and bearing for $100 so if you think you did you didn’t….you will only be receiving the bearing. I think 1/2 the people who own Tacoma’s don’t clean out the shipping grease and pack the bearings with bearing grease.
What does it mean when your wheel bearings are worn out?
If there is a lot of play, it usually means that the hub bearing adjustment has loosened. Or in the case of sealed-bearing hubs, either the bearing (s) is worn out, or the grease inside the sealed cartridge bearings in these hubs has been all used up over time.
What’s the best way to replace wheel bearings?
If it fits flush with the inner edge of the hub, tap it gently home with a wooden block. If it is recessed, use a socket to press it in. Replace the hub carefully, so as not to disturb the bearings or races. Lightly grease the stub axle, including the threaded end and the shoulder at the base. Keep grease off brake parts.
Where are hub assemblies and wheel bearings located?
Why you should maintain hub assemblies and wheel bearings. Located between the brake drums/discs and the drive axle, the hub assembly is mounted to the holding bracket of the chassis on the axle side. On the drum/disc side, the wheel is connected to the hub assembly via bolts. The wheel bearing itself is inside the hub unit.
Do you have to Grease Your wheel bearings?
If you have a sealed unit bearing, you wont need to pack or grease them. Many cars, trucks, and trailers use inner and outer bearings that ride on a spindle, these bearings must be greased before installation and then maintained on a regular basis.
What kind of lubricant do you use on wheel hubs?
If you work on these hubs you need to lube that inner needle bearing with an NLGI grade two wheel bearing grease. When you remove the hub pay special attention to the two seals on the axle shaft and one on the spindle.
What happens when you remove the wheel hub?
When you remove the hub pay special attention to the two seals on the axle shaft and one on the spindle. If these seals are leaking or worn or let moisture or contamination get inside the hub assembly, it won’t affect the wheel bearing but it can cause problems for the needle bearing that supports the axle shaft.
What kind of bearings does Ford Super Duty use?

But in addition to the primary tapered roller bearing, in the hub there is also a needle bearing that supports the axle shaft on front driven wheels in the F-250 and several other F series trucks.
